A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) spokesman confirmed the incident.

He said WHSQ had been notified and an inspector was on site “making initial enquiries ahead of commencing an inquiry”.

“As such we can’t provide further comment on what caused the incident,” he said.

It’s expected The Boat Works will release a statement about the incident later on Thursday.

Coast jockey in ‘serious’ condition after fall

February 13: A local jockey has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition with face and chest injuries after a horse fell on him at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

Emergency services were called to the track on Racecourse Dr at Bundall about 3.15pm to reports a horse fell on Gold Coast jockey Jason Taylor.

Friends have shared their well-wishes for Taylor on social media. Laura Cheshire said: “Thinking of you Jason Taylor! Nasty accident behind the gates at the Gold Coast. One of the best blokes in racing, waiting to hear from Alana that you’re OK.”

Gold Coast Turf Club racing manager Ian Brown said the Gold Coast-based jockey was injured in the starting barrier before the race started.

“It was prior to a race the horse stood up in the air and dislodged the jockey,” Mr Brown said.

“QAS were immediately in attendance and placed him in the ambulance stable and conscious.

“He’s a local jockey and we hope for a speedy recovery. He’s in the best possible care.”

Paramedics, including Critical Care and High Acuity Response Unit, took the man in a serious, but stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital.

A Gold Coast University Hospital spokeswoman said he suffered facial and chest injuries and was still being assessed.

More to come.
