Olympian Genevieve Gregson cheers on husband Ryan, Gold Coast Marathon 2025

Four-time Olympian Genevieve Gregson only gave birth on Wednesday – but that isn’t stopping her from cheering on husband Ryan at the Gold Coast Marathon this weekend.

Four-time Olympian Genevieve Gregson may have only given birth to her second son, Alfred, on Wednesday – but that isn’t stopping her from cheering on husband Ryan at this weekend’s Gold Coast half marathon.

One of Australia’s most accomplished middle-distance women, the 35-year-old said she was “feeling great” after losing more than a litre of blood following the birth.

“The care I had at Mater (Mater Mothers’ Hospital at South Brisbane) was first class. Within minutes I had about 10 people in the room with me and I was really well looked after,” she said.

“I’m feeling great now, and I am just enjoying being a new mum and my beautiful boys.”

Mrs Gregson said she was ready to cheer on husband and Olympic runner Ryan Gregson from the sidelines when he lined up for Saturday’s gruelling 21km event.

“Ryan and I support each other in everything we do, and I love running and seeing him race, so there’s no decision to make really, it’s just what we’ll do,” she said.

The athlete fell pregnant with baby Alfred shortly after competing at the Paris Olympics and said she kept training right until the day before he was born.

“Training during pregnancy was a good outlet when you feel like an alien in your body,” she said.

“As an elite athlete it’s my job to stay in shape and not be too far removed from competing, and it’s something I love.”

With her next goal set for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and then Brisbane 2032, she said she planned to get back to light training in the next few weeks – but wanted to make the most of her little family first.

“I’m looking forward to returning to running but I’m not itching to get back - I’m going to enjoy the baby bubble as long as I can,” she said.
