Gowns, glamour and glitz will converge on the Gold Coast next month for the Miss World Australia national finals.
The pageant, which began in 2002, takes place at Mercure Resort from August 15, with the crowning of Miss World Australia scheduled for August 18.
Before it all kicks off, meet 26 of the finalists vying to take out the coveted title:
Avaani Nandan – NSW
This 21-year-old is revolutionising beauty standards and promoting self-confidence by cultivating resilience and self-acceptance.
“Beauty is about confidence in one’s own skin,” she said.
Having lived internationally for over two years, Avaani gained invaluable insights into diverse beauty ideals, reshaping her perspective on what true beauty truly means – an unapologetic and authentic reflection of oneself.
Triumphing over childhood bullying due to severe eczema, she epitomises resilience and self-love, transforming her challenges into stepping stones to success.
Avaani is fearlessly leading the charge in overcoming adversity and empowering women by focusing her passion on fitness and Muay Thai.
With unwavering dedication, she has honed her skills in Muay Thai over the past three years, setting a powerful example of mental and physical fortitude.
Becky Wolfe – VIC
She strongly believes in the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ program and hopes to be able to embody this in all facets of her life.
Keen to fulfil the humanitarian goals of Miss World Australia, Becky is compassionate and empathetic, and grateful for the opportunity to play an active role to help others.
Becky is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Melbourne, as well as working to get her Agents Representative Certificate in Real Estate.
Ongoing education is hugely important to Becky’s future goals, and she is very aware of her personal good fortune and opportunity.
Becky understands the inequalities that exist within access to education for many people.
She would like to help others have the same opportunities through fundraising and community work.
With social activism at the forefront of her personal goals, Becky has embarked on many projects that beneficially impact others, including a community service trip to Laos, where she helped less fortunate children.
Chloe Hardy – QLD
This 19-year-old is a business owner in makeup artistry, property investor and she also works for a family business helping people who are less fortunate gain access to discounted food and groceries.
She has raised more than $15,000 for Variety the Children’s Charity.
Chloe plans to continue her advocacy beyond the Miss World Australia journey.
Pageantry has changed her life in more ways than one.
Not only is she more confident and secure in herself, but she has developed a new and improved mindset which she hopes to share with the world.
Chloe hopes to be an inspiring role model in her community and show people that they are capable of anything they put their mind to.
Cleo Pedley – TAS
From the gorgeous state of Tasmania, Cleo, 21, works at a graphic design firm and enjoys modelling and netball.
She is eager to present her ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ platform and to participate in all the challenges of Miss World Australia.
Representing Australia on the international stage is something she has dreamt of and is
ready to achieve.
She cannot wait to show Miss World Australia what she has to offer.
Courtney Brittle – NSW
This 26-year-old from Sydney was born deaf and didn’t talk until she was six.
She is writing a book called ‘Unbreakable Woman’ about her life growing up with a lot of traumatic events.
She says her experiences made her a survivor and the strong woman she is today.
Courtney wants to help other young women be survivors too.
Disha Mistry – NSW
Growing up, Disha’s mum envisioned her as Miss World, but the 26-year-old never thought she would make it this far.
Her motivation for entering this competition is deeply rooted in her desire to empower children in underprivileged communities.
She experienced this impact first-hand as a biomedical engineering intern in a Cambodian hospital, where she helped open their first neo-natal ward.
In the future, Disha would like to encourage self-expression through the transformative power of art, particularly photography, and establish a not-for-profit charity that would allow children to do so.
She is an engineer, a singer, a model, and hopes to be your Miss World.
Eliza Dalziel – QLD
This 22-year-old is in her third year of studying a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
She is also a professionally trained dancer.
After graduating as a doctor, she plans on specialising in surgery or anaesthetics.
Eliza has experience in volunteering in hospitals and orphanages in rural Nepal and is an active medical student volunteer for James Cook University’s Teddy Bear Hospital.
Since being diagnosed with ADHD at 21, she has been passionate about increasing the representation of ADHD in women and girls as well as championing public and medical education surrounding neurodevelopmental disorders.
Notably, Eliza has won the Australian Museum Eureka Prize – an award known as the Oscars of Australian Science.
In the same year she was named The University of Queensland’s Young Scientist of the Year.
Gabriella Oxley – QLD
This actress and mental wellness advocate grew up competing in athletics and hockey.
These sports allowed her to travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the USA to complete her Bachelor of the Arts degree while being part of the Seton Hill University Collegiate Field Hockey team.
She completed her studies with a double major in Philosophy and Theatre Performance and in
future intends to further continue her philosophical studies by pursuing a PhD focusing on
Existentialist and Feminist thought.
She aims to be a voice for those who have struggled with their mental health and body image to empower Australians to be confident in themselves and proud of what makes them unique.
As a strong advocate for the principles of feminist thought, she’s excited to show Australia what pageantry means in 2023 and the positive impact that this system deeply rooted in charity work and advocacy for change can have on society.
Gabrielle Kruf – NSW
This 21-year-old first started her journey with making a difference at four years old, travelling overseas with her family to spend time with underprivileged children.
At 10 years old, she became the ambassador for a national charity, which she worked closely with for three years.
Since this time, Gabrielle has partnered with various charities and organisations – at present, she is rebuilding a charity that gives gifts to aged care residents at Christmas.
Teaching down syndrome and performers with disabilities enables her to use her performing arts skills to give others a form of expression and identity.
Heer Pathrishi – QLD
This model’s heartfelt ambition is to shine on the stage of Miss World Australia, where she can combine her passion for pageantry with fundraising to make a positive impact.
With a diverse background in dance and a love for athleticism, Heer strives to embody grace and strength.
She studies IT with a focus on cybersecurity and aims to safeguard our digital world.
Heer represents the Central Queensland town of Gladstone and aspires to lead with humility, kindness and a purposeful vision.
Hilary van Herwaarden – VIC
After attending a women in business event which discussed developing personal brand and public speaking, this 29-year-old entered a pageant in 2015 as a platform to develop these skills.
Pageantry not only achieved this career goal for Hilary, but has become forum to make friends and is a platform that enables her to be positive role model and advocate for females to pursue careers goals, particularly in less gender diverse occupations like engineering.
Hilary has worked as an engineer in Queensland, Victoria and California over the past eight years, contributing to many exciting transport infrastructure projects that shape the cities we live in, such as the Gold Coast light rail Stage 2.
She has recently completed MBA studies to further improve her leadership and management skills and hopes through entering leadership roles to continue to encourage more females to enter the engineering and construction industry.
Janvi Makanjee – QLD
The highest fundraiser among all contestants this year, this 18-year-old is known for her passion for philanthropy, raising over $20,000 for Variety the Children’s Charity.
A recent graduate from Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus and a proud Gold Coast local, she embodies ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and serves as an inspiring role model.
Janvi’s philanthropy supporting sick, disadvantaged, and kids with disabilities, exemplifies her belief that “giving back to our community is not a choice but a way of life.”
She thanks the Gold Coast community for their support towards her fundraising, showcasing the transformative power of collective compassion.
Her journey serves as a beacon of hope, working towards a more caring and inclusive world for those in need.
Jasmine Stringer – QLD
Representing Australia on the international stage is a lifelong dream of Jasmine Stringer.
The Gold Coast born and raised primary school teacher and model strives to prove that brains and beauty are not mutually exclusive.
Jasmine is an avid equestrian, singer and passionate advocate for domestic violence awareness. She endeavours to empower Australian youth through education, which is one of the many reasons why she aligns so strongly with the Beauty With A Purpose program, proving MWA is more than just a beauty pageant.
Jasmine is beyond excited for a huge week of activities at the Mercure Resort as she prepares to compete in the national final on home turf in hopes of becoming your next Miss World Australia.
Jennifer Kim – NSW
This marketing and media student has a rich heritage blending Croatian and Korean, as well as Australian roots.
Beyond her studies, she is also a model and enjoys working part-time in retail.
When she is not busy with academic and professional pursuits, you can find Jennifer engaged in various hobbies.
She stays active and fit through activities like running and boxing.
Fashion and makeup are also passions of hers.
As a brand ambassador for Cavallino Corsa’s racing team, she gets to indulge in her love for speed and adrenaline, driving her trusty Fiat Arbarth 695, a car famous for its winning history
at Bathurst 12-hour in 2014.
Jennifer Sochima – NT
This 21-year-old has a lot of confidence, enthusiasm, and dreams in her heart and soul.
She aspires to be an example to everyone around her as a powerful advocate.
Coming from a war-torn nation and going through different hurdles of life, it has had a huge influence on her, her personality, and her worldview.
Moving to Australia has provided her with several possibilities, one of which is the opportunity to participate in Miss World Australia.
She would be pleased to represent this beautiful country on international platforms.
She has had the opportunity to participate in humanitarian work that promotes youth empowerment, as well as to inspire over 500 women during International Women’s
Day in the Northern Territory.
Jennifer is in her final year of pursuing a Diploma in Community Service to get her more active in her humanitarian work, as she is passionate about giving back to her community.
She will also continue her schooling next year, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in commerce and fashion design.
Jennifer strives to be an example to the youths in her society and hopes to inspire the next
generation to be change agents, reclaim visibility and representation space, and bring the national spotlight to Australia to showcase its diversity, uniqueness, strength, resilience and beautiful charm.
Jessica Lane – QLD
This contender studies a double degree in journalism, creative writing and publishing with the goal of shaping our environmental future and inspiring awareness and passion towards sustainability.
Jessica works in disability support and feels grateful and fulfilled to show up to work every day.
Miss World has inspired her to use her voice to create change and Jessica is enthusiastic to continue her fundraising efforts with her upcoming Yin and Gin fundraiser on August 12 at Duporth, Maroochydore.
Karlee Davis – VIC
She loves playing Aussie rules football, and last year was runner up for her club’s best and fairest.
Karlee is currently modelling, but previously studied public relations and a goal of hers is to eventually have her own business.
Last year, she ran two half marathons for charity.
With a passion for mental health and wellbeing, Karlee starts every day with meditation, gym or a run.
If lucky enough to be crowned Miss World Australia 2023, she will be a positive role model to young women, encouraging them to be the happiest versions of themselves
Katelan Pittick – VIC
This 19-year-old is honoured to represent Victoria in the Miss World Australia national finals.
Through volunteering, fundraising and organising activities for kids, she aspires to positively impact their lives.
Additionally, she has launched the ‘myscoliosis project’ to raise awareness about scoliosis, sharing her journey to provide educational resources and support for the wider community.
With unwavering dedication, Katelan aims to create positive change, leaving a lasting impression through Miss World Australia and spreading awareness for important causes.
Her resilience and empathy shine as she advocates for a more inclusive and compassionate society, inspiring others to embrace their differences.
Kathie Pearls – QLD
As a civil engineer, Kathie empowers women in engineering through the Women in Engineering Club, while also rocking the fashion industry with over six years of modelling experience.
Beyond her professional pursuits, she has a love for opera and cultural diversity, shaped by her upbringing in both Australia and Sri Lanka, which fuels her passion for embracing inclusivity.
Kathie is also passionate about her charity work across the globe, and recently launched a 30-day squat challenge to raise funds for Variety Australia, the children’s charity.
Kidist Begashaw – WA
This 19-year-old says she should be the next Miss World Australia because she possesses an unstoppable competitive spirit that fuels her desire to make a difference.
Combining her academic excellence in criminology and global security with her title as the 2023 Australian Supermodel of the Year, she showcases a combination of intellect and charisma.
Her competitive nature drives Kidist to break barriers and challenge conventions in the
modelling industry, paving the way for diversity and inclusivity.
With a dedication to empower others, she is committed to leaving an indelible mark as an influential role model.
As a Miss World Australia contender, she is not only prepared to shine on the global
stage but to seize every opportunity to amplify her advocacy for important causes.
A competitive edge pushes the 19-year-old to use this platform to the fullest, raising awareness and support for vital issues like women’s empowerment, education, and social

Letitia Walker – NSW
Making waves in the art world, Letitia pursues her passion for creativity.
She is currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts at Wollongong University.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Letitia has started her own art business, Sketch Paint Social, which aims to provide an inclusive platform for individuals to express themselves through art.
Her dedication to mental health advocacy is evident in her work, as she actively educates and assists those with mental health concerns through the therapeutic power of art.
Letitia’s unique approach to teaching art includes catering to individuals of all abilities, including the visually impaired, by engaging all five senses – touch, taste, hear, sight and smell.
Louise Child – VIC
This scientist, model and actor’s vision is to shine a light of hope for anyone who is living in fear of being hurt, judged, misunderstood or alone.
This is why she began the ‘Fearless QnA’ project where she asks people from all walks of life to join her Instagram page each week to answer the project question, “How can we create a world where more people live with less fear?”
The Beauty with a Purpose program is also a great way for Louise to raise awareness of the plight of 50 beautiful little bush kids at Bush to Beach.
These kids need help raising funds to travel 800kms to see the ocean for the first time.
This life-changing trip is an incentive to display good behaviour and attendance at school,
as well as encourages them to embrace their Indigenous culture and feel inspired about their future.
Louise is grateful to Miss World Australia for the opportunity to help these kids as well as share her survivor story and the fearless answers of others overcoming their own fears.
Melani Murdjevska – VIC
At 17, Melani’s goal is to obtain a law degree and she has also launched her own blog called GlamourByMel.
This aims to empower women to embrace their uniqueness and build their confidence.
Additionally, she has embarked on a humanitarian project ‘The Month of Giving’, creating opportunities for individuals to participate in fundraisers and engage in volunteering activities.
Melani has won the Defence Force Australian Youth Leadership Award and as the youngest national finalist, aims to use her voice as a unique power with the potential to reach and inspire others.
Montana Sadd - SA
A disability worker from South Australia, Montana has a huge passion for helping those in need and plans to pursue her passion internationally.
This 19-year-old also likes to dance, not only to stay fit and healthy, but to provide entertainment for those in care.
She has taken her dancing internationally to provide entertainment in Disneyland as well as travelling around Australia performing in nursing homes and volunteering for organisations such as the Cancer Council and KidzWish.
Navya Passi – VIC
Driven by a deep-rooted desire to become an influential figure and beacon of self-confidence, this 23-year-old aims to use her platform to spread awareness about embracing one’s unique qualities.
Navya is studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Podiatric Science and believes knowledge is a powerful tool that can transform lives.
With her unwavering determination and compassionate nature, she is poised to make a significant impact during her pageant journey.
Navya is a shining example of grace, intelligence and beauty, and she stands as a role model for aspiring individuals everywhere.
Pauline Dang – SA
This finalist is currently working as a physiotherapist for the forensics/mental health services with SAHEALTH and is preparing to serve the Australian Army as an Army Reserve Physiotherapist.
By blending her profession with advocacy efforts, she aspires to make a meaningful difference and foster a society that prioritises mental health.
Pauline believes it is important to promote understanding and encourage open conversations about mental health, ensuring that individuals in need receive the care, empathy, and compassion they deserve.
She was born and raised in Adelaide, and comes from a Vietnamese/Chinese background.
For Pauline, participating in this prestigious pageant has given her such a beautiful opportunity to represent and celebrate cultural diversity, to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and heritage and to promote inclusivity – showcasing that beauty comes in various forms.
She hopes to be an inspiring role model who can make a meaningful impact and contribute to a more diverse and accepting world.
Rachael Evren – QLD
Gold Coaster Rachael is a full-time content creator who specialises in Twitch streaming, movie reviews, pop culture news and cosplay.
Aside from running her own business, this 23-year-old is a qualified pilates instructor and is currently studying acting at drama school.
Throughout the years, she has consistently supported and raised funds for the A21 Campaign – a charity that is working to end human trafficking.
Miss World Australia has given Rachael a platform to speak about her passions and help inspire other young women to be confident in who they are.
Sofia Butenko - SA
This contender is studying a double degree of a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts majoring in global history and politics.
She has always been passionate about human rights and fighting for justice in an unjust world. Sofia was born in Ukraine, emigrated to Australia at a young age, and loves to embrace both cultures.
She works in a Ukrainian community centre with kids of all backgrounds, including
displaced persons who fled the war.
Sofia is constantly engaged with fundraisers to promote and educate Ukrainian culture and raising money to send for humanitarian aid.
She is determined to protect the fundamental rights of vulnerable communities and other countries that experience the devastating effects of war.
