A man who allegedly attacked emergency services as they battled a house fire in Tweed Heads on Easter Sunday has been granted bail.

A NSW police spokeswoman said the 57-year-old man allegedly threw rocks and lunged at police at firefighters with scissors, as they fought to contain the blaze on Lloyd St on April 20.

Crews from Tweed Heads and Banora Point fire stations rushed to the scene at 5.45am to contain the blaze in the carport of the home, a NSW fire and rescue spokesman said.

No one was injured in the blaze, and police soon established a crime scene once the fire was under control.

While they battled the blaze, emergency services were allegedly attacked by a 57-year-old man, who was later arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with assaulting a police officer in execution of duty without actual harm, a NSW police spokeswoman said.

“He was granted conditional bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 12 May 2025,” she said.

One of the residents of the property, Katrina Taylor, took to social media alleging the fire was an “arson attack.”

NSW police have not charged any person with arson in relation to the incident.

“A massive thank you to the passer by who raised the alarm and started on the blaze with the garden hose,” she said.

“We owe you our house and possibly the life of our son.

“The fireys also did an amazing job.

“10 more minutes and it was all gone.”

Ms Taylor said she “didn’t know how it was possible” that the man allegedly responsible was “released back into the neighbourhood that night”.
