A woman has been hospitalised after an incident that closed several lanes on the Gold Coast M1.

Emergency services were called to the mental health incident in Coomera around 5.15pm on Thursday.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said multiple crews arrived on scene.

A short time later they assessed a woman and took her to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Gold Coast police closed several northbound lanes on the M1 and directed drivers to take an alternate route.

One driver said they were stuck in traffic for more than an hour.

“It’s only just started moving again (at 6.20pm). But now all the traffic is merging because they’ve opened a lane,” they said.
