Jetstar is gearing up to welcome the first direct flight from the Gold Coast to a city filled with stunning waterfalls and sunset cruises, in yet another addition to its flight catalogue out of the Glitter Strip.

On Friday morning, Jetstar will launch their first direct flight from Darwin to the Gold Coast in a bid to connect the “growing domestic network”.

Jetstar executive manager Jenn Armor said the new route, which will operate four times a week until October 24, was a major tourism boost for both cities.

“We know Australians are eager to travel to places that offer something special,” she said.

“Darwin and the Gold Coast are two incredible cities, each with their own flavour and now they’re just one easy flight apart.

“The new service is about putting two incredible destinations within easier reach.”

Queensland Airports Limited chief commercial officer Adam Rowe said the new service would deliver more than 25,000 seats annually.

“The direct route opens up more opportunities for people to reconnect with loved ones, discover unique travel destinations and support the local tourism and hospitality sectors at both ends.

“The direct service also eliminates the need for connecting flights or long, often inconvenient drives up the motorway, making travel easier and more accessible.”

Gold Coasters wanting to explore more of Australia’s backyard in the Top End can explore Kakadu National Park, bask in a sunset cruise through Darwin, or even a road trip to the breathtaking Katherine Gorge.

The new flight was off the back of a busy week for the airline, with the launch of the direct service to Dunedin, New Zealand on Tuesday.

Jetstar will also be flying from Bali (Denpasar) from August 1.
