POLICE are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a man was assaulted in Southport on Monday.

The 66-year-old man was riding his mobility scooter along Ferry Road around 2.20pm when a woman he didn’t know jumped out of the bushes and confronted him.

The woman verbally abused him and spat in his face before crossing six lanes of traffic and fleeing west on the southern side of Queen Street.

The man had been approaching the Queen Street intersection.

The woman is described as African in appearance with bleached orange hair, aged in her late 20s and approximately 167cm tall with a slim build.

She was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Police are now urging anyone who may have seen the incident or have mobile phone or dashcam footage around the Ferry Road and Queen Street intersection between 2.20-3pm on Monday April 19 to come forward.
