Is this the Gold Coast’s most festive family?
The Daymond’s hope their Christmas lights display will sleigh the competition, decking out their home on Winchester Dr, Nerang with twinkling lights, inflatable santas and candy canes.
Brigit Daymond’s two-year-old grandson inspired her first-ever Christmas lights display.
“He loves Christmas and my daughter does as well because she was actually born two days before Christmas,” Ms Daymond said.
“We are a real Christmassy family and having a grandson now is even more of a reason to get into it.”
The Nerang family have taken their tree-mendous display to the next level - decorating both inside and outside their home.
Ms Daymond started planning in early November and even laid artificial turf in the front yard and had extra power points installed.
“It’s been quite an event really.”
The Gold Coast Bulletin, Seven News Gold Coast, 92.5 Triple M and 90.9 Sea FM have taken over 2021’s city Christmas lights competition.
Entries open December 1 and close on December 8.

Voting for the best display will be open until December 15.
First, second and third place winners will be announced shortly after voting closes.
The major prize on is a $2425 five-night stay in premium-view accommodation for a family of four.
Warning after Bunnings shoppers rush to nab Christmas lights - November 25
GOLD Coasters keen to start their Christmas decorating are being urged to get in quick to avoid disappointment.
Bunnings warned its Christmas range was limited as festive fever takes over the Glitter Strip.
While December 1 is the traditional date to put up Christmas trees and lights, many Coast residents have already finished their displays.
Bunnings national outdoor lighting buyer Rebecca Hevey said its festive range started dropping into stores in September.
“The range has been extremely popular with customers as we find decorating the home for Christmas is becoming more popular every year,” she said.
“Stock is varied across the store network and we suggest heading to our website to check availability at your local store.
“Whilst our festive range is limited, we stock a wide range of decorative lights all year round, including festoon, fairy and rope lights.”
The most sought after decorations this year include:

Early Christmas lights trend takes off on Gold Coast - November 24
A PIMPAMA family is proving how easy it is to spread Christmas cheer – one house at a time.
The Edwards family has already finished their home lights display.
“We have been doing a Christmas display for a couple of years,” mum Bianca Edwards said. “This is the most we have done and it took a couple of hours.
“I feel like every time we go to Bunnings, we buy more lights.”
When the family moved to Longstaff Cres, they were the only house on the street with a display.
“Nobody did it, but now there are five houses in our area that have them, so it’s a bit cute,” Mrs Edwards said.

THE man who started Gold Coast’s annual Christmas lights competition has welcomed its return.
Reg McKay’s family company launched an early iteration of the competition in 1990 to promote community spirit and entertain tourists.
“There wasn’t much Christmas spirit back in those days on the Gold Coast,” Mr McKay said.
He handed over the reins to then mayor Ray Stevens in 1995 due to a move interstate.
The Gold Coast City Council ran the competition until 2020, when Covid forced its cancellation.

take over the competition after the council announced it would no longer run it.
Mr McKay welcomed the move from the local media heavyweights.
“I think that’s terrific. It certainly wasn’t an easy job – we did it out of love for the people and the community,” he said.
“I wish the people taking it over every success.”

Christmas saved: Beloved Coast lights competition rescued - November 15
A CHRISTMAS miracle has come early for Gold Coast residents.
The Gold Coast Bulletin, Seven News Gold Coast, 92.5 Triple M and 90.9 Sea FM are joining forces to spread the festive cheer by taking over the long-running annual Christmas lights competition.
The three local media organisations will take the reins from Gold Coast City Council, which announced on Monday that it would no longer be running the much-loved tradition.
Gold Coast Bulletin editor Rachel Hancock said the new competition would involve a public vote to find the best Christmas lights display, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.
“Christmas light displays are a wonderful way to spread the Christmas cheer and no doubt it is much needed after yet another tough year,” she said.
“The Gold Coast Bulletin, 7News Gold Coast, 92.5 Triple M and 90.9 Sea FM are delighted to pick up the reins, and we look forward to hearing from our readers about which displays they think should make the list.”
Mayor Tom Tate said it was “brilliant” to see the competition continue.
“Congratulations to the city’s media organisations for ensuring the lights competition is on for 2021,” he said.
“It just goes to show the great spirit that exists out there and I look forward to seeing what the Bulletin, 92.5 Triple M, 90.9 Sea FM and Channel 7 Gold Coast can do.”
