Ute burst into flames on Gold Coast M1

Firefighters have battled to contain a large blaze which engulfed a ute on the Gold Coast M1 and brought peak-hour traffic to a crawl.

Emergency services were called to the inferno on the Pacific Motorway southbound just after the Hope Island Rd off-ramp (exit 57) at about 8.50am on Wednesday just after the flames took hold.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said two crews were worked to extinguish the fire and there was no one inside the vehicle when firefighters arrived on scene.
