Emmanuel College: Flooded Carrara school ransacked by teen vandals, principal confirms

As if being submerged in the murky waters of the Nerang River wasn’t bad enough, a Carrara school has been left reeling after vandals dumped the contents of hundreds of student lockers into floodwaters.

As if being submerged in the murky waters of the Nerang River was not bad enough, a Carrara school has been left reeling after vandals dumped the contents of “hundreds” of student lockers into floodwaters.

Emmanuel College principal Dan Brown told parents of the attack at noon on Monday, in a message to the school community seen by this masthead.

“I am deeply saddened to share that, amid the challenges our community is already facing due to the flooding, our College has been targeted by deliberate vandalism,” he said.

“CCTV footage has confirmed that at approximately 8pm last night [Sunday], two intruders waded through floodwaters to access our campus, ransack student lockers, and dump the contents of hundreds of lockers into the floodwaters.

“This is not just an attack on property – it is an act of disrespect against our school community and the values we uphold.”

Mr Brown said the footage captured the pair moving “throughout the entire bottom level of the Neville Bonner Centre and then upstairs”.

“Given the current conditions, we have not yet been able to confirm if other areas of the school were also affected,” he added.

Mr Brown said he encouraged school parents to be full and frank with their kids about what had happened.

“Some students may arrive to find their personal belongings damaged or missing, and it is important that we help them prepare for this reality,” the principal said.

“Resilience is not about ignoring hardship – it is about facing challenges with strength, unity,

and a commitment to moving forward together.”

A criminal complaint has been made and police have launched an investigation, Mr Brown added.

He invited any parents who recognised the two children apparently involved in the vandalism – footage distributed alongside his missive appeared to depict two teen girls, one in footy shorts, the other in an Oodie emblazoned with cannabis leaves – to contact the school’s business manager.

Queensland Police has been contacted for comment.
