A body has been found near a busy Gold Coast shopping centre.

Emergency services were called to public land on Robina Town Centre Drive just before 10am on Sunday.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the death was non-suspicious.

Witnesses say as at 11.30am police had closed off one of the entrances to Robina Town Centre with three marked police cars and an ambulance at the scene.

“The cops had closed the carpark’s entrance off and were directing traffic around it,” a witness said.

“There were heaps of cops and ambulance officers there.”

The incident has caused significant traffic disruption at entrance to the Big W carpark on the first weekend of the school holidays and one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

Large crowds have packed into the centre over the weekend for the Black Friday Sales.

Among those who witnessed the aftermath was Lidia Garai who saw police set up a black tent covering the scene.

“I drove in to drop my daughter to work around 10.45am and asked the officer what happened,” she said.

“He said ‘I can’t say too much but you wouldn’t want to see it’ (and) I drove around and there was a black tent covering the scene.”
