A woman has been charged and seven people have been injured in seven separate road accidents within the space of a few hours overnight.

Police said it would be alleged a black Nissan Juke and a white Kia Rio collided head-on on the Gold Coast Highway near Tedder Avenue just after 10pm.

It will be further alleged the driver and sole occupant of the Nissan fled the scene on foot following the incident, before being arrested by police a short time later.

The driver and sole occupant of the Kia, a woman in her 70s, was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, a 37-year-old Eagleby woman, has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving under the influence of liquor, failing to remain at the incident and render assistance, and driving without a driver licence.

She was issued a notice to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on July 19.

Emergency crews started their busy Friday night at Ashmore where a man suffered chest pain after a two-vehicle crash on the corner of Cotlew Street and Patura Drive at 6.02pm.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Less than an hour later, another two-vehicle crash saw a woman suffer abdominal injuries.

The woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition after the smash on Global Plaza at Oxenford at 6.56pm.

Minutes later, a three-vehicle crash at Labrador saw another person taken to hospital with unknown injuries at 7pm.

That crash was on the corner of Imperial Parade and Muir Road.

At the same time, crews were dealing with a three-car crash at Carrara, which saw another person taken to hospital.

That crash happened on Keller Crescent at 7pm.

A man in his 20s was next to be injured after his vehicle crashed on Bermuda St, Mermaid Waters at 7.34pm.

A woman in her 70s received minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Gold Coast Highway at Surfers Paradise at 10.08pm.

Meanwhile, a man in his 20s with a chest injury was transported to Gold Coast University following a fall from a bicycle on Main Beach Parade at 11.20pm.
