A Gold Coast man was in the grips of a drug fuelled downfall when he ploughed into two parked cars and rolled his vehicle before running off. And that was only the beginning.

Man arrested over Gold Coast crash

A Gold Coast man taken down by police in a dramatic arrest after crashing into two parked cars had a cocktail of drugs in his system at the time, a court has been told.

Dylan John Williams was behind the wheel of his white Nissan Pulsar on July 25 last year when he ploughed into two parked cars on Central St at Labrador about 7am, rolling his vehicle on its roof.

Southport Magistrates Court was told Williams freed himself from the mangled wreck and ran from the scene. Officers patrolled the area for close to an hour. At about 8am, he was spotted running from the rear of a shopping complex on Ashton St, and was swiftly arrested by police.

The 35-year-old was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where a blood test later revealed a cocktail of drugs in his system including amphetamines, methamphetamine and THC.

The court was told about eight weeks after the crash police were called to Avanti St in Mermaid Waters where a homeowner had reported squatters staying in their property. Upon arrival, officers arrested Williams and another woman at the address.

Then on the 15th February this year, officers responded to Lae Dr, Runaway Bay at about 1.10am where a drug-affected Williams crashed his car on a roundabout before abandoning it.

Attending police found him unconscious and covered in his own urine on a nearby lawn. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

On Monday, Williams pleaded guilty to a string of offences including driving under the influence and with drugs in his system, trespass, and failing to stop and provide details after a crash.

His solicitor Farshad Sarabi told the court Williams had relapsed and turned to drugs at the time of offending following his father’s death early last year.
“He fully admits and is honest about his drug taking, to try and at least, in his misconceived way, deal with those issues within his own mind,” Mr Sarabi said.
“He wrote off his vehicle which was $3600 – he no longer has a car. He’s confided in me that he’s stopped taking drugs since these charges.”
Williams was handed a six-month probation order and will have to be of good behaviour. As part of the conditions, he will have to take part in counselling and submit to psychological assessment if required.
His licence was disqualified for six months and convictions were recorded.
