A cowboy themed cafe, which does not sell any hot coffee, has opened just over the border and Gold Coasters are frothing it.

After four months of slinging coffees, Sun Devil in Tweed Heads has become both an online and instore sensation.

Sun Devil owner Alex Boyce kickstarted his “very unique” business idea on the Gold Coast market scene just over a year ago and was inspired by his hometown in Arizona.

“The real inspiration was the American-style lemonade and sweet tea,” he said.

“It’s something I grew up on and I wanted to bring that little taste of America to Australia.”

Mr Boyce said the fact they don’t serve any hot coffee separated them from other venues on the Gold Coast and northern NSW.

“We are really just a coffee bar,” he said.

“Just slinging cold brew on tap. It’s a twist of New York diner meets western cowboy bar.

“I’m not shy to say it’s some of the best and most unique coffee you’ll ever try.”

Mr Boyce said they operated out of vintage clothing store, Strange Days, adding to their Americana-style ambience.

“You can come in for a coffee and chat but you’re almost guaranteed to leave with a pair of cowboy boots and a couple of vintage pieces on the way out.”

The ‘Sun Devil Special’ and the ‘Devil’s Advocate’ have been their most popular drinks.

“Both drinks are our own original ideas and they have absolutely flown off the shelves,” Mr Boyce said.

The Arizona-born man shared a heartfelt ‘thank you’ message to his partner, Freya, for helping him take a shot in the dark.

“We opened this thing together from a silly little idea we had over dinner one night,” Mr Boyce said.

“Sitting in the shop until two in the morning painting the bar and hand-painting our signs and menus.

“Sun Devil would not exist if it wasn’t for her.”
