Gold Coast Senior Constable Jade Henderson sets Guinness World Record for pull ups
A Queensland cop's extraordinary determination has led to a new world record, beating the previous pull-up challenge by eight reps after overcoming a devastating setback.
A Gold Coast police officer now holds the world record for the most amount of pull ups in one hour.
Senior Constable Jade Henderson completed 733 pull ups in just 60 minutes to set the new Guinness World Record, beating the previous record of 725.
The 32-year-old started training in November last year and originally wanted to attempt the record for most pull-ups in 24 hours.
But on her last training session before the attempt, she tore her bicep.
“I did a 12 hour session and about 3500 pull-ups and I woke up the next morning and my arm was swollen and inflamed,” she said.
But the injury didn’t stop Constable Henderson from giving up on her goal.
She pivoted to attempt the one hour challenge on August 22 and received confirmation she had officially broken the world record in late September.
Throughout her training, she would hit the gym three times a week.
“I wanted something that challenged me both physically and mentally and I wanted to see where my limit was,” she said.
“I had done a lot of big training sessions in the lead up so the hour felt very doable.
“I felt very prepared and I was in the zone for the first 45 minutes.
“The last five minutes was when it got really hard.
“It’s shown me that I can do anything I can put my mind to.
“It’s just about how much time and effort you’re willing to put in.”
Constable Henderson has been thrown into the spotlight after the attempt.
“It has been pretty full-on,” she said.
“I wasn’t expecting this much attention because it was just a personal goal and I wasn’t doing it for any kind of recognition.”
Constable Henderson already has her sights set on another Guinness World Record and plans to attempt the most amount of pull ups in one minute, which is currently 77, by the end of the year.
While training for the attempt, she was raising money for Blue Hope, which provides support to current and former police officers in Queensland.
