A Geelong academy prospect and three sons of guns headline the Geelong Falcons under-18 pre-season squads.
The Falcons have named 105 of the most talented footballers from the region in their boys and girls squads.
Cats Next Generation Academy talent Ben Rongdit and U17 futures game medallist Josh Lindsay shape as the most likely 2025 draft chances from the Falcons boys next year.
Jesse Mellor, son of Geelong West senior coach Greg, is also tied to the Cats’ as an NGA prospect..
Boston Riccardi, the son of Geelong best and fairest Peter and brother of former Cat Osca, Jackson Mooney, son of triple Geelong premiership player Cam, and Jaxon Cooney (son of Brownlow medallist Adam) also feature in the squads.
Riccardi and Mooney are draft eligible next year, while Cooney will enter his bottom-age year in 2025.
There is still scope for other players to join the squads, with Geelong Falcons talent lead Jesse Drever saying the program has an “open door policy”.
Cooper Leach — who trialled with Vic Country and will return as a 19-year-old next year — Mac Scoullar, Sam Meaney, Rilley Aquilina, Charley Green, Jett Elek, Charlie Meadows, Eleanor Walsh and Kijana Skerke all came into the program this year after impressing for their local sides.
“We are always looking to invite players in from the community at any point in time who are showing positive form to be part of our training squads,” Drever said.
“This season alone, we had some great examples of players who were added to our Coates Talent League lists throughout the year, despite not being in the program initially, because of form at local level.
“We will keep working to develop this model because it ensures a strong connection with junior & senior programs at local clubs and allows players the opportunity to put their best foot forward in game action.”
Training will commence for the squads in mid November, with players in the train-on squads able to be invited at any time.
