Two Surf Coast Football Club youngsters named Matilda are gearing up to watch their namesake heroes take on Chinese Taipei at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.
Aspiring Tillies Matilda Bogue and Matilda Furness will join a crowd of almost 18,000
at Kardinia Park to watch the friendly match.
The 10-year-olds have been playing soccer their whole lives and can’t wait for their idols to touch down in Geelong, Matilda Bogue’s dad Mark said.
“It’s great to be able to have the Matildas come here because it means these kids that look up to them get to see their role models live,” he said.
“Their goal in life is to play for Australia and so it’s fantastic to have these athletes to look up to and think that maybe they can do that one day, too.”
Saturday night’s clash is the first time in more than seven years Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium has hosted the Matildas.
