Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation is searching for a new chief executive officer, following the departure of long-term leader Paul Davis in March.

Mr Davis had led the organisation since 2017.

The organisation is currently being headed by interim chief executive officer Liam Murphy.

Mr Murphy was previously the organisation’s people and capability manager.

Wadawurrung spokeswoman Holly Earl said the procurement process commenced in August, with applications for the position closing at midnight on September 3.

She said the incoming chief executive officer should have knowledge and understanding of the historical and cultural issues affecting Wadawurrung and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Paul Davis, former CEO, left the organisation in March.

The successful applicant should also have previous experience in complex project and program management, as well as experience in strategic and community led planning processes.

A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships in a cross-cultural environment across a diverse range of stakeholder groups is also a desired attribute.

According to its website, the corporation is the representative body for Wadawurrung Traditional Owners.

The corporation was appointed in 2009 as a Registered Aboriginal Party under the Victorian Aboriginal HeritageAct.

Its area covers 10,000sq km on the western side Melbourne, including Geelong and Ballarat.

“This area incorporates the activities of 11 separate local councils – including many that are experiencing very high rates of growth in terms of population, infrastructure, commercial and residential development,” the website states.

“Wadawurrung Country also incorporates the start of the Great Ocean Road, one of Australia’s most iconic and popular tourist destinations.”

The salary bracket for position has not been advertised.
