‘Tragic is an understatement’: Frankston man Johnny Stubbs, 30, identified as victim of horror North Shore train collision

The 30-year-old Frankston man leaves behind three children, including a son born just weeks ago.

The truck driver killed in Monday’s horror collision with a train in North Shore had just become a father for the third time and is being remembered as being “as Aussie as an Aussie could get”.

Thirty-year-old Frankston truck driver Johnny Stubbs was driving through the notorious Station St level crossing just after midday on December 11 when it’s understood his trailer became stuck and he was hit by a Melbourne-bound train.

Mr Stubbs was reportedly out of his vehicle at the time of the collision.

According to a GoFundMe set up by friend Darryl Edwards, Mr Stubbs left behind three children.

“Johnny leaves behind three gorgeous children, his little man just weeks old … and his beautiful partner, who now has to piece together a shattered life and dreams that they both once had,” Mr Edwards wrote.

“Tragic is an understatement, life simply can be so cruel and unfair.”

Mr Edwards said that for Mr Stubbs “family and trucking were his thing”.

“He was born to drive trucks and had a massive love for doing what he (sic) done, no matter how hard the task,” Mr Edwards said.

“But Johnny’s family was his true love that he idolised and adored.

“(He) always had a big grin and a chat and time to talk and listen, giving everyone the time of day.”

“Tragically on the 11th of December we lost the big fella … just going about his business at work getting the job done, no doubt just itching to get home and be with his family and brand-new baby,” he said.

“Johnny didn’t make it home … sadly there was a collision between Johnny’s truck and a train and this great man’s life was cut short.”
