A suspected bikie gang member has been accused of assaulting a woman he met on a dating app.

Andrew Jones allegedly asked patrons at a busy pub in Geelong West earlier this month if anyone would “sleep” with the woman for $500.

When the woman told him to stop being “rude and vulgar”, the Armstrong Creek man allegedly slapped the woman, sprayed her with his drink and grabbed her by the throat.

Mr Jones also allegedly told the woman he was “in the mob” and said “everyone needs to know you’re here with me”.

Mr Jones faced Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday where he was granted bail with a $50,000 surety.

Mr Jones has not yet entered an official plea to the assault charges.

After the woman left The Barking Dog in Geelong West, Mr Jones allegedly sent her a number of messages, including one telling her he was “in the mob” and “you don’t know what I’m dealing with”.

In another text, Mr Jones allegedly told her to “get the guns out” which police said referred to firearms the woman legally owned.

At about 2am the same night, the woman said she was woken to the sounds of dogs barking and allegedly saw Mr Jones outside.

Mr Jones allegedly forced his way inside and slammed the woman into a chest of drawers before pushing her onto the bed.

As he left her home, Mr Jones allegedly punched holes in her wall with such force that police found blood around the damage.

In a separate incident in September last year, Mr Jones was accused of allegedly getting into an argument with an ex-girlfriend and smashing her head against a wall inside the CBD’s Bloom Nightclub.

Mr Jones also allegedly picked a fight with security guards outside Lamby’s Tavern, telling them he was “going to come back with my boys next week and shoot you all”.

Defence lawyer David Cronin said there were a number of reasons why Mr Jones should be granted bail.

“His family have shown up today and are prepared to support him in any way moving forward,” Mr Cronin said.

“He owns his own business … if he was released on bail today, he could get back to work this week.

“He has a mortgage on his house and while sitting in custody he is unable to earn money … spending a significant time in custody may put his house in jeopardy.”

Magistrate Simon Guthrie said Mr Jones was an “unacceptable risk” but trusted his mother would call police if he breached bail conditions, including to abide by a curfew and to not drink alcohol.
