A Bellarine man has been suspended from driving for a year, blowing four times the legal limit after backing into another car.

Portarlington police were called by concerned residents on Friday after witnessing a man driving erratically near Bluff Rd in St Leonards.

According to Victoria Police, the 61-year-old St Leonards man was attempting to drive off after reversing into a grey SUV before officers intercepted him for a breath test.

The man returned a reading of 0.24, more than four times the legal limit.

His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months, and he will appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court with further charges.

A Victoria Police spokesman said “police would like to thank the public for their vigilance and concern, which helped ensure the safety of the community”.

“Stay safe, and don’t drink and drive,” he said.

It comes just days after a woman, who had a zero-alcohol limit on her licence, was caught with a blood alcohol reading of 0.203, four times the standard legal limit.
