Queenscliff chief executive Martin Gill to finish role early after council vote
Queenscliffe council has announced the early scrapping of its chief executive’s contract worth nearly $300k just months after he received a formal warning over his conduct.
The Borough of Queenscliffe’s councillors have voted to dump their chief executive early, months after he received a formal warning over his conduct.
Councillors voted on Monday night to finalise chief executive Martin Gill’s contract, which was which was set to expire in October next year.
Mayor Di Rule confirmed on Tuesday morning councillors had agreed on terms with Mr Gill for the early finalisation of his contract which was worth $295,000 including a car allowance.
Mr Gill will finish in the role on November 28, after taking over in October 2019.
Ms Rule said Mr Gill had made a “significant contribution to the council and the Queenscliffe community over the past six years”.
“On behalf of all the councillors and the community of Queencliffe I thank Mr Gill for his efforts and wish him and his family all the best for the future,” Ms Rule said.
“Council have also resolved to appoint an experienced and highly regarded recruitment agency, McArthur, to assist council in identifying a suitable permanent CEO to replace Mr Gill.
“We are assured by McArthur that this is a coveted role and will attract many highly skilled suitable candidates.
“I am excited by the opportunity to bring fresh energy and ideas to the management and culture of our council.”
A report in May revealed Mr Gill had been given a formal warning by the Local Government Inspectorate following his handling of a councillor’s notice of motion relating to his own performance appraisal in March last year.
Council is expected to soon appoint an interim chief executive until Mr Gill’s replacement is found.
