Police hunt for stolen weapons after Geelong home invasion

Police are on the hunt for a stash of firearms after thieves allegedly stole weapons, ammunition and cash during a violent home invasion in Geelong.

Police are working to track down a stash of firearms stolen during a violent home invasion in Geelong.

Two burglars allegedly armed with a firearm and knife stormed a home on Torquay Rd, Grovedale about 12.10pm on March 2, confronting a 62-year-old male resident.

They allegedly stole eleven firearms from a gun safe, ammunition, cash, identity documents and the victim’s car.

The Special Operations Group was called in to arrest the men in Oak Park the next day.

A 35-year-old Kurunjang man was charged with offences including home invasion, false imprisonment, theft, theft of motor vehicle, possess traffickable quantity of firearms, assault, assault with weapon, prohibited person possess firearm, handle stolen goods, possess methylamphetamine and possess prohibited weapon.

A 23-year-old Melton was also charged with offences including home invasion, false imprisonment, theft, theft of motor vehicle, possess traffickable quantity of firearms, assault, assault with weapon, prohibited person possess firearm, handle stolen goods, possess prohibited weapon and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

The duo was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

Police later arrested three other men allegedly linked to the gun raid.

They included a 35-year-old Hillside man arrested in Hillside on March 23 and charged with prohibited person possess firearm, possess traffickable quantity of firearms, possess methylamphetamine and possess prohibited weapon.

He was bailed but rearrested about 48 hours later and is facing further charges of home invasion, aggravated burglary and theft of the firearms.

He was remanded to front Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 29.

A 31-year-old Melbourne man was arrested in the CBD on March 24 and charged with possess traffickable quantity of firearms, non-prohibited person possess category A longarm unlicensed, handle stolen goods, possess methylamphetamine, negligently deal with proceeds of crime.

A 32-year-old Ashwood man was also arrested in the CBD on March 27 and charged with possess traffickable quantity of firearms, prohibited person possess firearm and handle stolen goods.

He will face Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on July 5.

Police have so far recovered six firearms stolen during the aggravated burglary.

A further three were seized but are linked to an unrelated incident, meaning five are still missing.

The investigation by the Illicit Firearms Squad is continuing.
