A man has been charged with a string of offences after a dramatic police chase on Thursday.

The 33-year-old Thomson man was arrested in Little Malop St during the lunchtime rush in the Geelong CBD following the chase.

Patrolling police first spotted the allegedly stolen Range Rover driving along the Princes Hwy in Williams Landings just after midday.

Air wing choppers were soon called in, and spotted the car at Little River, heading toward Geelong.

Officers attempted to pull the driver over, but he allegedly fled the scene at speeds of up to 170km/h.

He was then allegedly spotted entering a Malop St shopping centre car park and arrested a short time later.

Wyndam Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged the man with multiple offences including driving while disqualified, trafficking drugs and possession of methamphetamine, prescription drugs and a prohibited weapon.

The car has been identified as a hire vehicle which was allegedly acquired by fraudulent means.

The man will front Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
