A senior member of the Bandidos bikie gang has been granted bail for his role in an alleged bashing in a Geelong bar, which left a man with a partially paralysed face.

Matthew Rizzo, 29, appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court for a bail application on Wednesday.

The Winter Valley man is charged with intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, intentionally causing serious injury, common law assault, affray, failing to answer bail, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon and cannabis possession.

The court heard Mr Rizzo, sergeant at arms of the Bandidos Ballarat Chapter, was alongside president of the Melbourne Chapter, Pascoe Vale’s Toby Elvey, 41, and sergeant at arms of the Melbourne chapter, Maribyrnong’s Marty Albert, 44, when the alleged assault unfolded.

Detective Senior Constable Rhett Killeen told the court that about 12.30am on October 22, the victims were at the Manhattan Bar on James Street and interacted with the alleged offenders table before a scuffle quickly ensued.

In CCTV footage played to the Geelong Magistrates Court one of the alleged victims could be seen being grabbed by the hood of his sweater before he was flung to the floor, smashing his head on a table.

He was then punched repeatedly in the face and kicked twice in the head while unconscious on the floor.

Constable Killeen said Mr Rizzo punched the alleged victim a number of times while he was unconscious.

The court heard that the man suffered a broken nose, facial fractures and nerve damage causing partial facial paralysis as a result of the attack.

The second victim was also repeatedly punched and was left with numerous injuries, including a bite mark to his cheek and a sore tailbone.

The court was told the affray lasted about 90 seconds.

Mr Elvey faces charges including intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence, assault, affray, two counts of committing an indictable offence on bail and handling stolen goods.

Meanwhile, Mr Albert was charged with common law assault, affray and possession of methamphetamine.

Mr Albert and Mr Elvey were granted bail on November 16.

Magistrate John Bentley granted Mr Rizzo bail and placed him on a surety of $3500.
