A man will face court over a disturbing stabbing alleged to have happened in broad daylight at a central Geelong shopping centre.

UPDATE: A man will face court over a disturbing stabbing alleged to have happened in broad daylight at a central Geelong shopping centre.

Geelong detectives have arrested a 32-year-old North Geelong man following a brazen alleged attack near the entrance of Coles at Westfield Geelong on Monday, January 30 about 4.30pm.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was taken to Geelong hospital with serious upper body injuries.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the alleged offender had been charged with “intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, unlawful assault and assault with a weapon.”

He has been bailed to appear in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on March 8.

EARLIER: A man has been stabbed at a Geelong shopping centre on Monday afternoon, with police still working to identify those involved.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene near the entrance of Coles in Westfield Geelong about 4:30pm.

Police said the victim was with another man when the incident occurred.

“It’s believed the victim was with another man when a confrontation occurred with two other men who were behaving suspiciously,” a police spokesman said.

“The victim, who is aged in his 40s, has been taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries.

“The other man wasn’t physically injured.

“Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have follow-up inquiries to make in relation to the two men that fled the scene.”

Paramedics were also called to the scene about 4:40pm.

“A man in his 40s was taken to Geelong University Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

It follows another violent stabbing in a Geelong shopping centre earlier this month.
A man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed at the Corio Village Shopping Centre on January 21.

The incident is alleged to have occurred following an altercation in the car park.
