Man allegedly shot in Whittington

The alleged victim of a Whittington shooting has undergone surgery after he was rushed to hospital with a neck injury, with the Armed Crime Squad heading up an investigation.

A 55-year-old Whittington man has undergone surgery following an alleged shooting on Wednesday.

Police are continuing a hunt for a man who fled the scene of the alleged shooting at Freesia Crt, Whittington.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad believe it was a targeted attack and the parties involved are known to each other.

The 55-year-old Whittington man was taken to Geelong hospital and treated in the emergency department on Wednesday night after the incident about 5:40pm.

A Barwon Health spokeswoman said the man was in stable condition on Wednesday evening.

It is understood the man was taken to Geelong hospital with a neck injury.

According to information from The Alfred hospital a stable condition means “the patient’s vital signs are within normal limits. They are likely to be on a regular ward not a high dependency or intensive care.”

On Thursday morning Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said: “(the) investigation remains ongoing.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers were called to Freesia Crt about 5:40pm after reports a man had sustained a suspected gunshot wound.

“A 55-year-old Whittington man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

“Police are searching for a man who was seen leaving the scene.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.”
