A notorious Geelong thug took photos of a man after bashing him unconscious in a disturbing attack that came just hours after he was freed from jail.

James Fiske, 29, launched a brutal assault on the 42-year-old victim after discovering the man had been in a relationship with his ex-partner while he was in jail.

The victim was knocked out on a Whittington nature strip when Fiske snapped pictures and sent them to associates, including his former girlfriend, with messages mocking the injured man.

The County Court was told the shocking incident happened two weeks before Fiske left a Belmont motel manager with serious injuries in an unprovoked attack.

Fiske, of Whittington, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to intentionally causing injury and making a threat to kill.

Prosecutor Katrina Webster said the incident in Whittington happened in the early hours of June 11, 2020.

The victim had been staying in a caravan at the rear of a home on Solar Drive when he woke to the sound of someone jumping a nearby fence.

The man opened the door to investigate when he was suddenly knocked to the head by an unknown person.

The court heard the man fell to the ground and lost consciousness, before being dragged about 60m to a nature strip.

Fiske, who is not charged with the initial assault, then “happened upon” the victim as he woke and regained his feet, Ms Webster said.

She told the court Fiske landed several blows to the man’s head and jaw, causing him to be knocked out a second time.

As the victim lay motionless, Fiske took two photos and shared them with a male associate, with the message: “I got (him) bro haha f--ked him up.”

He also sent the photos to his ex-partner and wrote: “That’s what you left me for haha … wait and see what I do to him today.”

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries, including a broken jaw and fractured nose.

He had surgery, with a titanium plate and seven screws inserted in his jaw.

As the man recovered in hospital, Fiske sent a message claiming responsibility for the attack and threatening to “put a bullet” in him.

The assault came one day after Fiske had been released from prison after serving 15 months.

Fiske will be sentenced on December 13.

Last month, he was jailed for a minimum of four years for bashing a 62-year-old motel manager in Belmont.
