A passion for eating quality food on the go has led to a Geelong dad opening his very own takeaway sandwich bar in Torquay.

“I love eating with my hands, I know it sounds lame,” Daniel Gooley said.

“I think sandwiches and burgers are brilliant, especially in this fast paced world where we are always rushing.”

Mr Gooley, who has worked in hospitality since he was 15, said the concept for his sandwich bar was born when he was working for Cartel Coffee Roasters and delivering coffee across Melbourne during Covid.

“The deli scene really developed (in Melbourne) because they did takeaway only,” he said.

“I was eating these deli sandwiches on the road and I was like ‘holy moly, what a great concept’.

“I really wanted to bring that attitude and style to Geelong.”

In June this year, the 28-year-old found the Gilbert St location and his business, Gooley’s, opened in late November.

“I’m over the moon with it,” he said.

“I started at McDonald’s at 15 and then started roasting coffee at 16 and now I have my own little hole in the wall.”

There are currently five sandwiches on the menu, including pastrami, chicken, and pumpkin, and Mr Gooley has plans to expand the range.

He is also serving his own coffee blend from Cartel instore.

“We are running with a Mexican wash processed coffee blended with an Ethiopian coffee,” he said.

“It’s a coffee that makes everyone happy.”

“It’s delicious as a black coffee and with all the different kinds of milks.”

Mr Gooley said the business had so much support and love form the community in recent days.

“We want to be a part of the community, do things to the best of our ability and have a good time doing it,” he said.

Gooley’s is located at 27 Gilbert St, Torquay.
