Geelong’s top baby names of 2022 have been revealed.

According to data supplied by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria, Willow was the most popular name for Geelong girls in 2022.

Willow was ranked thirteenth for girls’ names across the state, however was the favourite in Geelong with 30 babies registered with that name.

Similarly, Hazel was rated tenth in the Victorian figures released on Monday, but was the second-most popular girls’ name in Geelong last year.

Drysdale mum Elyse Hines said she and her partner had picked the name Willow out long before their daughter was born in 2022.

“It’s a sweet name for a sweet little girl,” Ms Hines said.

“It’s been on our name list for a couple of years. It’s the name my partner and I could agree on really, which is the hardest challenge.”

Ms Hines said she was surprised the name was so popular in Geelong.

“You don’t see it all the time, but I’m definitely starting to see it more often,” she said.

“She’s our second daughter, and the two names we picked out were Piper and Willow, and my first looked like a Piper.”

Jack and Oliver tied as the most popular boys’ names registered in Geelong last year with 33 bubs apiece.

Both names polled highly in the statewide figures, released on Monday, with Oliver continuing a nine year streak at the top of the list for boys, and Jack coming third.

The data represents the top baby names registered in 2022, not necessarily all babies born during the year as parents have 60 days to register a birth.

Geelong’s figures encompassed 31 postcodes across the region.
