Detectives are investigating a fire in Corio on Sunday night that is believed to have been deliberately lit.

Detectives are investigating a fire in Corio on Sunday night that is believed to have been deliberately lit.

An arson chemist is at a property on Quebec Ave and a crime scene has been established.

First Constable Darcie Sword said Geelong CIU members were probing the blaze as suspicious.

It is understood the fire started inside a vacant house just after 9pm.

“No one was inside at the time,” she said.

“The investigation remains ongoing.”

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said crews arrived at the Corio property at 9.06pm.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to bring the situation under control.

“The fire has been deemed suspicious,” a FRV spokesman said.

It comes as detectives investigate a number of arson attacks across Geelong this year, including a series of bizarre tree fires in Belmont.

Residents are growing concerned the mysterious arsonist is becoming more brazen, with fears a house could soon burn down.

Firefighters have been called to at least eight tree fires since March 10.

Two other homes have been destroyed by flames in Corio since February.
