More than 40 comedic acts will take the stage during the inaugural Geelong Comedy Festival, created to help establish a constant comedy scene in the region.

The festival will run from October 26-28 across six venues in Geelong’s CBD.

Co-director Blaise White, who founded the festival with partner Kelly Baker, said he, like many others born and raised in Geelong, travelled up to Melbourne for comedy shows.

“It’s a crime that in the second biggest city in this state there hasn’t been much of a constant comedy scene, so we decided to work on building one,” he said.

Mr White said this included weekly comedy shows, open mics for aspiring Geelong comedians, and now a festival aimed at bringing the best comedians in the country to Geelong.

He said there were more than 3300 tickets available for the more than 50 shows across the three-day festival.

Mr White said there would be something for everyone, with acts ranging from late night “wild” shows to children’s shows.

“We are really proud of the variety of artists coming down,” he said.

“We want it to be a community festival – something that can happen every year, filling the city with laughter.

“Geelong is buzzing right now – people are back out and looking for fun things to do, and we can’t think of anything better than local bars, local drinks and great comedy.”

The Geelong Comedy Festival will run October 26-28, with tickets capped at $25.
