Emergency service on scene at intersection of West Fyans Road and Shannon Ave, Newtown

Fresh details have emerged over a major crash in Geelong earlier this week, with an unmarked police car alleged to have been cannoned into by another vehicle.

Fresh details have emerged over a dramatic crash in Geelong this week, with an unmarked police car alleged to have been cannoned into by another vehicle.

Victoria Police confirmed to the Geelong Advertiser that one of its vehicles had been involved in the four-car collision in Newtown, which caused major delays on Tuesday.

It’s believed it was smashed into by a Ford on West Fyans St just after 4pm.

The impact caused the police vehicle “to hit two other vehicles that were stationary at traffic lights on Shannon Ave”, according to Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson.

“A passenger in the Ford and a passenger in a BMW were taken to hospital for observation but were not injured,” she said.

Officers are investigating the exact cause of the smash.

It comes after Two women were taken to hospital following the incident.

Emergency services arrived at the intersection of West Fyans St and Shannon Ave at about 4.15pm on Tuesday following the crash.

A spokesman from Fire Rescue Victoria said crews were alerted to the incident “involving four cars” and arrived at 4.17pm.

“Despite an earlier report, there were no people trapped,” he said.

“The situation was declared under control at 4.20pm.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said two woman, believed to be in their 60s and 50s, were taken to Geelong hospital in a stable condition.

One of them was the driver of a VW involved the smash.

Both had suffered upper body injuries.

One witness at the scene told the Geelong Advertiser traffic was being diverted by Victoria Police with minor delays experienced.
