Curlewis man, 41, expected to face charges over alleged drink-driving crash

A drunk-driver is expected to be charged after his ute slammed into cars and through a fence in Curlewis, with allegations he attempted to evade police following the dramatic crash.

An accused drunk-driver is expected to be charged with serious offences after his ute slammed into cars and through a fence in Curlewis, with allegations he attempted to evade police following the dramatic crash.

The driver was nearly five times the legal blood alcohol limit when he hit two vehicles and ploughed through a colorbond fence on Oceania Drive on Wednesday.

A 41-year-old man allegedly gave a positive breath test at the crash scene, at about 9.20am, before returning a reading of 0.244.

It’s understood children were kicking a football on the same nature strip his Nissan Navara was seen flying across earlier that morning.

The ute side swiped a yellow sedan, parked on the side of the road, before driving across a front yard.

It then crashed through a fence and into a parked car in a driveway.

The impact of the collision lifted it off two of the four wheels.

Shocked neighbours looked on in disbelief at the chaotic scenes that ensued.

One man, who did not want to be named, claimed the driver hid from police when they arrived.

“I jumped out of my skin, the bang was that loud,” he said.

Paramedics and fire crews also responded.

The alleged driver, from Curlewis, could be seen hobbling around barefoot with one witness claiming he attempted to straighten the damaged fence in the aftermath.

Victoria Police Acting Sergeant Emma Faliszewski said his licence was immediately suspended for 12 months following the blood alcohol reading.

He is yet to be formally charged but is expected to face serious offences in court at a later date.

A police spokeswoman confirmed on Friday he would be charged on summons.
