A woman has been charged following an allegedly violent waterfront rampage which police say saw three people attacked, and led to increased security patrols at Deakin University.

Police allege the 49-year-old Corio woman assaulted three people on Western Beach Rd, Geelong about 12.30pm on Thursday before fleeing on foot.

It’s believed the woman was in the centre of the city before moving to the waterfront and allegedly attacking people at random near a car park next to Deakin University.

The university’s Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of university services urged students to “remain vigilant” regarding their personal safety in an email seen by the Geelong Advertiser.

“While I cannot provide much more detail at this time, I can confirm our campus is safe, that security patrols have been increased and that you don’t need to adjust your routine,”

Deakin University are assisting police with their enquiries, the email said, assuring students the alleged perpetrator “has no connection to Deakin”.

None of the three people reportedly attacked were seriously injured.

It is understood the woman was found by police and arrested about 2.30pm.

She has been charged with affray, recklessly causing injury and three counts of common law assault, and has been remanded to appear before the Geelong Magistrates Court on 26 August.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
