A Corio man who terrorised Geelong bottle-shops was found so drunk at a bus stop he could not keep his pants up, a court heard.

A woman who drove past a Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre bus stop in December 2022 told police she saw Akec Akec, 28, who lives along Cox Rd, exposing himself with his pants down.

There were no allegations the exposure was of a sexual nature.

When police arrived, Akec had put his underwear on but was struggling to keep his pants on, staggering around and so heavily intoxicated he was unable to hold himself up.

Akec appeared at the Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to charges of being drunk in a public place, thefts from shops and committing offences while on bail.

In October 2022, Akec was spotted taking an item valued at $464 from Bunnings in North Geelong and leaving without paying.

Akec said he “needed money” for drugs and had an arrangement with a “friend” to steal what he was told to.

A month later, Akec walked into a bottle shop attached to the Norlane Hotel and stole a pack of Jack Daniels cans.

When approached by security in the carpark, Akec told the man to “f--- off or I will stab you”.

In January this year, Akec walked into a Bell Post Hill BWS four times over two days and stole alcohol.

Akec also pleaded guilty to helping an associate with stealing a car from a Cox Rd home in December 2022.

Defence lawyer, Elli Dawe, said Akec has been consuming alcohol since 14, cannabis since 16 and turned to ice from the age of 19.

Magistrate Michelle Hodgson said she was concerned about Akec being a person who is “agreeable to stealing on order”.

Referring to being drunk in a public place, Ms Hodgson acknowledged it was not of a sexual intention and was because Akec was “simply so drunk that he didn’t have his pants on”.

Ms Hodgson added Akec’s long criminal history made it difficult to consider any other sentencing but imprisonment.

“The importance of your criminal history is that it makes it very difficult for me to have any confidence that you would be willing or able to complete a community-based disposition,” she said.

On the public drunkenness charge, Akec was convicted and discharged.

On the remaining charges, Ms Hodgson sentenced Akec to 80 days imprisonment, with 68 days reckoned as served.
