Police were called to a Bellarine high school on Monday, after officers were called to a violent incident at a Newtown school less than a week before.

Officers attended Bellarine Secondary College’s Drysdale campus on Monday morning after a third party reported an assault.

It comes just days after police responded to an assault at Sacred Heart College.

Bellarine Secondary principal Wayne Johannesen said in a letter to parents and carers, published on Monday night and seen by the Geelong Advertiser, that “appropriate action” had been taken in response to the assault.

“There was an incident between two students at the Drysdale campus today,” Mr Johannesen wrote.

“Staff acted immediately to separate the students.

“Two young people later attended the campus and police were called, who dealt with the matter.

“The safety of our students and staff is our priority and appropriate actions were taken to ensure such.”

Police confirmed officers attended the Peninsula Dr about 11am after receiving a report by a third party about an assault.

“Officers spoke to people at the scene,” a police spokeswoman said.

“No formal report has been made to police.”

The Geelong Advertiser contacted the school on Monday afternoon and was referred to the education department.

A Department of Education spokesman said: “Any form of bullying or violence is completely unacceptable.”

“Schools investigate all incidents and provide full support for any student that has been affected.”

It’s understood individual schools are responsible for any disciplinary action in relation to any student involved in perpetrating school-based bullying or violence.

The individual schools also notify the appropriate authorities of any such incidents.

The department provides a range of resources to support schools and educate students on the harms of bullying and harassment.

At least two students linked to the assault at Catholic all girls’ school Sacred Heart have been suspended, the Geelong Advertiser revealed on Monday.

The Geelong Advertiser understands the two girls, a Year 8 and Year 9 student, were suspended amid a school investigation into the incident which occurred on Tuesday last week.
