A Bellarine Peninsula bakery’s mouth watering pies have taken out a number of top awards at the 2021 Official Great Aussie Pie Competition.

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes won seven gold medals, four silver medals and a bronze medal at the Sydney-based contest last week.

The bakery’s lamb, minted pea and potato pie was also named Australia’s best potato top pie.

General manager Nathan Williams said this was the 20th national title won by the bakery.

“The lamb minted pie and potato was the overall win of the potato top pie category – we have the best potato topped pie in Australia,” Mr Williams said.

“It’s fantastic, we are ecstatic down here.”

Mr Williams said the bakery had been entering competitions for nearly 30 years, with bakers constantly driven to come up with new and innovative recipes.

“Every time you win a national title it’s amazing,” he said.

“It creates a lot of buzz and is great for the bakehouse.”

Mr Williams said judges particularly comments on the flavour combinations and quality of the pastry.

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes has stores at Ocean Grove, Queenscliff and Leopold.
