An amateur rapper has faced court accused of accelerating at a police car during a high-speed pursuit in Geelong.

Codey Jennings, 29, appeared on Tuesday at Geelong Magistrates Court to seek a sentence indication over the alleged incident in Corio last year.

According to prosecutors, a policeman in an unmarked vehicle was forced to take evasive action after Mr Jennings allegedly drove at the car during an attempt to pull him over.

Mr Jennings admits being the driver, but the court on Tuesday heard he denied the claim that he drove at the police car.

The single dad, who raps using the name “K. I. D”, faces charges including dangerous driving while being pursued by police and recklessly exposing an emergency worker to risk by driving.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Chris Sinfield said the incident happened about 8.15pm on November 19, 2020.

Mr Jennings was allegedly spotted on Harpur Rd, Corio, driving a Holden Commodore without registration plates.

Another person was also in the vehicle at the time.

Sen-Constable Sinfield said an unmarked police car pulled up in front of the vehicle and gestured for Mr Jennings to pull over in a nearby service lane.

It is alleged Mr Jennings reversed a short distance before accelerating heavily in the direction of the police vehicle.

A senior constable was driving the unmarked car and was allegedly forced to turn the vehicle sharply to avoid a collision.

A pursuit started and police followed the Holden to the Princes Hwy where Mr Jennings allegedly reached speeds in excess of 110km/h in a 50km/h zone.

The court heard the car then wove through residential streets around Corio before speeding into Hendy Street Reserve, where police terminated the pursuit due to the “dangerous and erratic” driving.

After further investigation, police arrested Mr Jennings and charged him with the offences.

His lawyer, Jacob Mildren, told Tuesday’s sentence indication hearing that the former Geelong man had now moved to Ballarat where he cares for his 18-month-old son.

Mr Mildren urged the court to consider a community correction order, but magistrate Franz Holzer said the alleged offending warranted a jail term, even if Mr Jennings pleaded guilty to the charges.

Mr Jennings rejected the sentence indication and will take the case to a contested hearing scheduled for March next year.
