A heroic 7-year-old has managed to free himself from a Little River wreckage in a bid to help his dad, who suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The young boy, who was travelling with a 41-year-old Sunbury man, ran into trouble at around 11pm on Tuesday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the Ford Falcon utility driven by the 41-year-old was travelling on Sandy Creek Road near the intersection of Forest Road when it left the roadway and rolled.

She said the man was able to extract himself from the vehicle while the young boy ran to a nearby property for help.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said they received a call at 11:15pm on June 21.

“Paramedics treated a man who was flown by air ambulance helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital,” she said.

The young boy received minor injuries and was taken to hospital by road.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
