Geelong cricket star Ollie Peake poised to make his senior international debut in Darwin

Geelong’s brightest cricketing prospect in many years is set to make his senior international debut in the Top End next month.

Teenage Geelong cricket star Ollie Peake’s rapid ascension into professional cricket continues after being picked in the Australia A squad to take on Sri Lanka in a series of matches in the Top End next month.

Peake, 18, who made his Sheffield Shield debut against Western Australia in Perth in March, striking a composed 52 in the first innings, has been selected in the 16-man squad for the five-match series in Darwin.

Kicking off with a day-night 50-over fixture at Marrara on July 4, the series will include three limited overs matches and two four-day games, wrapping up on July 23.

It will be Peake’s first taste of senior international cricket after making his Big Bash League debut with the Melbourne Renegades in January.

It came just a few weeks before he travelled to Sri Lanka for the two-Test series as a development player.

Meanwhile, Peake and fellow Geelong teammate Callum Stow were handed rookie contracts with Victoria for the coming summer in early May, while keeper-batter Liam Blackford also received a full contract.
