Geelong AFLW coach Dan Lowther said he saw concepts last year for what an upgraded Kardinia Park could look like from a football perspective to cater for the club’s growing four-team programs.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Lowther said he was shown some “concepts and ideas” last year.
It comes as the City of Greater Geelong’s masterplan for the precinct has been put on ice until after the local government elections.
One idea to come from organised discussions has been a boutique stadium which could house for up to 8000 people.
“I’ve seen some concepts around what it might look like if that’s the step we take,” Lowther said.
“It’s obviously happening around the competition with teams building indoor facilities and ways to manage all their programs.
“Maybe it was a bit more future planning around what we’d like having around the Kardinia precinct.
“Again, it’s just concepts and ideas.”
He said upgraded facilities at Kardinia Park would be ideal for the Cats’ four-club program.
“We’ve got four programs which work simultaneously for most of the year, we just haven’t had the space,” he said.
“There’s no doubt having something indoor or boutique ... to give our players a chance to work on some fundamentals indoors, in all conditions, is basically the trend of where the competition is at.
“We need to be keeping up with that and I think we do a good job with what we’ve got already.”
