A Victoria Police officer is one of two players to be handed a five-week suspension for his part in an alleged physical altercation during a lower-grade finals clash in the GCA.

Alexander Thomson’s Terry Siluca, who is a Leading Senior Constable at Victoria Police, was suspended by the Geelong Cricket Association for ‘physically assaulting a player’.

Guild-St Mary’s player Jordan Fulton was also offered a five-week ban for ‘making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with an umpire’.

Both incidents were graded level four by GCA officials and offered identical five-week suspensions, which Fulton accepted.

However, Siluca has chosen to appeal his ban and will face the GCA tribunal on Wednesday night in a bid to clear his name and play in the grand final.

The two sides were playing in a qualifying final which Guild-St Mary’s won by 30 runs, with the two sides set to face off again in the grand final on Saturday.

Siluca has played more than 100 games for Alexander Thomson in his senior career, making 286 runs in 15 matches in the 2022-23 season, as well as 20 wickets across the year.

Fulton made an unbeaten 55 in the qualifying final where the incident occurred, and will miss the grand final after accepting the ban.

Guild-St Mary’s captain Brendan Harvey and Alexander Thomson skipper Cal Gillett were both handed a suspended two-week ban, carrying over until the end of the 2023-24 season.

The captains’ suspensions were for failing in their responsibility ‘in upholding the preamble – The Spirit of Cricket, MCC Law 1.4, and MCC Law 41.1’.
