Updated, Monday 2pm: Police have located a Suzuki motorcycle stolen by five masked males late last week but remain on the hunt for the offenders, who were linked to a later Worongary shooting.
It’s alleged the group of five men wielding weapons attended a home at Mylor St, Nerang about 3.20am on Thursday.
“They have assaulted a male occupant before stealing a black Suzuki motorbike,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman previously said.
“One of the offenders left the scene on the motorbike while the others left in the black Nissan Navara they arrived in.
“The 47-year-old male victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries.”
At a police press conference on Monday morning, Superintendent Brett Jackson confirmed the same black Nissan Navara was identified at an address at Newhaven Cres, Worongary, in which a firearm was discharged at a vehicle about 7.40am Friday.
No one was injured during the shooting.
“We haven’t located any discharge shells at the scene or found where the rounds ended up, which would indicate to us that it’s a very small calibre and possibly even a homemade firearm,” Superintendent Jackson said.
Forensic examination on the vehicle linking the attacks began on Monday morning but the link between the two victims, if any, is yet to be identified.
“The full understanding of the motives and the reason for those people involved is still under investigation,” said Superintendent Jackson.
“Because they were targeted attacks we don’t believe that the public have cause for concern, but our investigations will continue until we identify the firearm.”
Home robbed, car shot as armed gang runs from police
Initial, Friday 4pm: Police are on the hunt for a gang of armed offenders believed to be involved in a robbery and subsequent shooting on the Gold Coast.
It’s alleged the group of five men weilding weapons attended a home at Mylor St, Nerang about 3.20am on Thursday.
“They have assaulted a male occupant before stealing a black Suzuki motorbike,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman told the Bulletin.
“One of the offenders left the scene on the motorbike while the others left in the black Nissan Navara they arrived in.
“The 47-year-old male victim was transported to hospital with minor injuries.”
Police believe the same Navara was used in the shooting of a vehicle at Worongary on Friday morning.
“Around 7.40am, the black Nissan Navara was observed near a Newhaven Crescent address when a single shot was fired from the vehicle before it left the scene,” the QPS spokesman said.
“Police monitored the vehicle as it travelled towards Nerang before losing sight of it.”
No one was injured during the shooting.
Both incidents are under investigation and anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage is urged to immediately contact police.
At this stage the robbery and shooting are believed to be targeted and the offenders aren’t thought to pose a wider threat to the community.
