SEVERAL students from an elite Hobart private school are among those in self-isolation after they came in close contact with Tasmania’s third confirmed case of coronavirus.
Four students from The Friends’ School have self-isolated as a result of advice from the state’s health department after they were on the same flight as the woman in her 30s who tested positive for the virus on Wednesday.
A fifth student at the school – a sibling of one of the students who was on the plane – will also self-isolate for 14 days along with the other students.
‘WE’LL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER’: PM
On Thursday night, The Friends’ School principal Nelson File wrote to parents to inform them about the situation.
It is not known if the students have yet been tested for coronavirus.
The year levels of the students has not been revealed.
The principal said the school has already had a small number of members of the school community take self-isolation measures as the coronavirus outbreak has developed.
Guilford Young College principal Craig Deayton on Thursday wrote to the school community saying a student from that school had been self-isolating as a precaution because family members had been on the flight.
CORONAVIRUS CLINICS SET UP IN THE NORTH-WEST
Tasmania’s third – and Hobart’s second – case of coronavirus was revealed on Wednesday night, with more details coming to light on Thursday.
Health authorities said the woman had travelled to Tasmania from South America with stopovers in New Zealand and Sydney before arriving in Hobart on Sunday night aboard Jetstar flight JQ727.
Director of Public Health Mark Veitch said Public Health Services had a list of passengers and crew from the flight and had been contacting people who had been in close contact with the woman.
Dr Veitch said those seated in rows 13 to 17 on the flight would be asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
