Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is set to join the board of Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox Sports and Fox News.

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is set to join the board of Fox Corporation, the parent company of Fox Sports and Fox News.

In a statement released on Friday in the US, the company announced Mr Abbott had been nominated for election to its board at its annual general meeting later this year.

Mr Abbott, who served as PM between 2013 and 2015, has since 2020 been an adviser to the UK’s Board of Trade.

He has been nominated alongside Peggy Johnson the CEO of tech company Magic Leap.

They will replace Jacques Nasser, the Australian-American businessman who was formerly president of the Ford Motor Company and French-American hedge fund manager Anne Dias.

Welcoming the pair, Fox Executive Chair Lachlan Murdoch said they “bring skills, experience and perspectives that will contribute to the Board and benefit FOX.”

The nominations come a day after Mr Murdoch’s father Rupert announced he will step down as chairman of Fox Corporation and executive chairman of News Corp, the owner of the Daily Telegraph, at the companies’ AGMs later this year.
