A large fire has fully engulfed a residential home in Darwin’s north near a school, with emergency services crews on the scene.
The fire, located at Jingili Tce, Jingili, was reported on the Northern Territory fire incident map at about 2.41pm on Tuesday.
A neighbour who did not want to be named said he heard what sounded like an explosion at 3pm.
“I heard two loud bangs around three o’clock, I thought it was fireworks (at first),” he said.
“I was checking my neighbours to make sure everyone’s ok and saw smoke coming out.”
The man said he was unsure if anyone was home at the time.
“Normally there’s a few kids and a lady there and a guy but they’re in and out,” he said.
The house is located across the road from the Jingili Primary School.
An NT Fire and Emergency Services spokesman confirmed a structure was ablaze.
A video taken by a person riding their bike near the scene shows plumes of thick black smoke rising into the air while the home burns.
