A Darwin songstress known for her heartfelt and introspective tracks is set to release her debut album this Valentine’s Day.

Indie-folk and alt-country artist Crystal Robins dropped her 11-track debut album, Moonflower, on Friday, marking a significant milestone in her career as a Northern Territory musician.

“This album is the result of a huge team effort working with my band, producer and a range of amazing guest musicians.

“I’m super proud of how the songs have come together, and I hope that others will find something they connect with in this collection of songs too.”

The album’s feature single release, Flowers, spotlights local musicians Aden Mackay, electric guitar; Ben Allen, mandolin and banjo; Tom Jones, bass; and Mark Smith, drums.

With more than a decade of performing experience across Australia, Robins has also shared the stage with notable international artists including Wendy Matthews, Josh Pyke, and Karen O.

Robins said recording her debut album in Darwin was a special moment in her career.

“I’m very grateful for the support I’ve received from Arts NT, making it possible for me to record my debut album right here in Darwin”, she said.

“This album represents a long-held dream come true, and I’m truly thankful for everyone who has helped bring it to life.”

Robins has recently returned from an interstate tour, performing her latest releases at festivals including Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania and Tamworth Country Music Festival in New South Wales.

In 2024, Robins was a senior graduate of the Country Music Association of Australia Academy in Tamworth, after winning the ‘Road to Tamworth’ scholarship.

Here she co-wrote the song When I Grow Up – which appears in her upcoming album – with award-winning Americana songwriter Melody Moko.

In the past year, she has been a finalist for the NT Music Awards and the Australian Folk Music Awards.

Her debut release, Wildfire, climbed to number six in the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) charts shortly after its release.
