Darwin’s seafood sellers will meet the demand for fish ahead of Easter.
As families prepare for one of the biggest weekends of the calendar, a pair of Darwin seafood stores has revealed some of their specials and what’s most popular on the menu.
Mr Barra general Amon Hesketh said a plethora of crabs and prawns had been brought in on top of enough fish for hungry Territorians.
“We have enough fish to cover the whole community,” she said.
“We’ve also had confirmation on two big deliveries coming through despite the bad weather delaying things, but we have a full variety of fish available – including fresh Atlantic salmon from Tasmania.”
At a starting price of $29, customers can enjoy a delicious fillet from Mr Barra as part of their Easter celebrations.
And what fish does Ms Hesketh expect to be most popular this weekend?
“Goldband snapper or Red snapper I would say – over the years they’ve usually been the most popular.”
Mr Barra will be open on Good Friday, Saturday and Monday.
Next door at the Darwin Fish Market, manager Gabbie Newman said oysters, prawns and “some gorgeous snappers” were this weekend’s top picks.
“We’ve got a special for oysters, including a dozen for $18, and we’ve got Red Emperor, Saddle Tail, and Crimson snapper the other big buys – both very easy to put on the barbecue as well.”
Ms Newman said the other special, Tasmanian periwinkles, were also available and expected to be a big hit.
“It’s not just a big weekend to worry about for us because we’ve got the 40 days of fasting, so every week there’ll be a different fish people will want to eat and so we’ve made sure we’ve got enough of everything.”
Darwin Fish Market will be open on Good Friday from 10am to 2pm and reopen on Tuesday.
