A top Territory lawyer has been re-elected as the chair of a leading international legal post.
Ward Keller partner Leon Loganathan has been re-elected as chair of Lawyers Associated Worldwide (LAW), a global market leader and a non-profit association of nearly 100 independent law firms in more than 50 countries.
Founded in 1989, LAW provides a network for member firms to expand their operations and relationships into new domestic and international markets.
The organisation helps small to mid-sized law firms like Ward Keller – which joined LAW in 2008 – to service clients outside its residential state or nation.
It could also help local businesses and governments connect and collaborate with international investors, Mr Loganathan said.
Mr Loganathan, who specialises in commercial and property transactions, state taxation, and regulatory compliance, served as vice-chair at LAW from 2018 to 2022.
In 2022, he became the first Australian to be elected as the chair of LAW.
Most recently, Mr Loganathan was re-elected in November at LAW’s 2024 annual meeting in the Netherlands and will now serve a second two-year term on the Executive Committee.
Mr Loganathan said the role was more than “just hopping on a plane,” and urged Territory businesses to reach out to him.
“This is how we can get people to invest in the Territory,” he said.
“I’ve most recently connected a local company wanting to do business in Indonesia with our member firm in Jakarta, yesterday I connected our member firm in Nashville with a firm in Melbourne wanting assistance with advice on an initial public offering.
“From my perspective I think it is really important for people to take advantage of this window of opportunity while I am the chair.
“It opens doors for Territory businesses and government to tap into this powerful network of contacts and really make a proper investment.
“People shouldn’t just see this as a network of lawyers; they need to see this as a network of ‘boundless possible’ opportunities to connect the dots with potential investors and collaborators.”
Mr Loganathan said members with LAW shared “a lot” of advice and ideas because it was not viewed as a competition, but rather a way to expand investment and connections for local and international firms.
